The Gers region
is, quite simply, the land of festivals.
Occurring all year round, but particularly more
so in the summer months, they range from the
magnificent: Marciac Jazz festival is world
renowned, to the bizarre: 5-a-side football with
a bull running around the pitch anyone? Below
are some of the larger and more popular ones:
Marciac Jazz Festival – For the first two weeks
in August, Marciac, a small market town, becomes
the centre of the Jazz world. Running for nearly
30 years, and attracting more than 100,000 visitors
each year, it truly is world famous, with
quality acts flying in from all over the globe.
The main stage seats 5000 and is the main
attraction for the evening shows, but the whole
town comes alive at all times throughout the
fortnight, with free concerts happening in the
town square, restaurants providing a wide range
of global dishes, art exhibitions, films, and
just about any other form of entertainment you
could imagine. For more information, including
the programme of acts, please visit

Tempo Latino, Vic Fezensac – This pretty village
hosts a 4 day festival of salsa music every
July, attracting big names in Latin music, and
ensuring a carnival atmosphere for everyone to
enjoy. There are free shows in cafes and bars
around the village, as well as the main
performances in the Bull Ring. There are also
dance classes available, allowing you to join in
the festivities, even if your moves aren’t quite
up to scratch. More information is at

Mirande Country Music Festival – Billed as the
biggest Country music festival in Europe,
Mirande transforms itself into an American town
for 5 days in July. Over 165,000 people attended
the festival last year, to enjoy concerts
running from 5pm to the small hours of the
morning, as well as to visit over 200 stands
with various items for sale, ranging from Indian
and Western clothing, to local produce. Further
attractions include: Collections of American
cars, Harley Davidson’s and hot air balloon
rides. The festival takes place in Mid July, for
this years dates and line-ups please visit
